Skin food!
Have you heard the overstated line that “you are what you eat?” It is true; our skin is a mirror of the internal body and vice-versa. So let’s look at a few interesting foods…
Blueberries – containing an extremely high concentration of antioxidants, they have been known to deactivate many carcinogens! Also, blueberries contain a compound called anthocyanosides, which work to help the body prevent heart disease and slow the effects of aging on the organs. And remember, the skin is an organ!
Chocolate – many things may come to mind with this food, but let’s talk about the altered state one feels after indulging in a fine piece of sinfully delicious chocolate. Loaded with a compound called phenylethylamine, the indulgent treat of choice for many is widely argued to actually elevate the sense of well-being.
Green Tea, fact or fiction? Based on my studies, fact! Polyphenols are the antioxidants that are found in green tea. Scientific studies have shown that polyphenols help prevent cancerous cells from multiplying. Beware, drinking your tea with milk binds the proteins and thus cancels the benefit!
Shrimp, sardines, yogurt and salmon all have this in common… CALCIUM! Yep, calcium! It strengthens your bones, which keeps your bones dense and posture proper. It also enables you to maintain an active exercise regimen, which will keep you with a gorgeous glow!
Salmon is rich in Vitamin D, which helps the bones absorb calcium. It is that exercise issue again! Rise and shine at 5AM and get your blood flowing! Not to mention it helps keep your hair and skin healthy.
Then we have Vitamin C which is found in berries, broccoli, citrus fruits and even tomatoes! It is the supervitamin! It boosts immunity and is essential for good skin.
